Party Time - Sophie's Birthday Party
On Tuesday 13th of September we held our very first Doggy Birthday Party. Sophie the Golden Retriever was 1 year old, that’s 14 years old in human terms. Winny her owner had asked us to plan and arrange a party for Sophie and her canine pals, Leyla, Molly, Jake, Jack and Fuzzy.
It was important that we knew what type of things Sophie and her doggy pals like; so after meeting with Winny and Sophie, we came up with a range of party games and canine party food that we knew everyone would enjoy. We were also asked to provide a cake and party bags for the guests.
With only a few days to plan and prepare everything, it was all hands on deck. There was shopping to get, party bags to make up, decorations to arrange and a cake to bake.
On the big day, all the guests arrived as planned, tails wagging with their owners. Everyone was excited, there were lots of play bows and friendly barks; to let off a bit of steam all the dogs were allowed off lead to play and interact. Leyla chased Sophie, Sophie chased Fuzzy, Jack barked excitedly bouncing around everyone and Molly ran between and around. Jake lay patiently under the food table making sure no one tried to steal anything.
Then it was time for the party games; we started with something simple that all the owners would know musical chairs. Next a trail of doggy chocolate drops were placed on the floor in front of each dog which they had to eat as quickly as they could before racing to the finish line. Finally ‘Retrieve the Sausage’, each dog had to go with its owner to the other end of the room and retrieve a sausage, racing back up the room without eating it. Fuzzy came in first with Jack and Molly close behind. Although Jake finished next he had managed to eat nearly ¾ of his sausage, much to Lyn’s disappointment.
By then it was time to eat, first on the menu were Canine Kebab’s, stewing steak, cherry tomatoes and button mushrooms skewered, with a little help from their owners all the dogs munched their way speedily through their starters. Lips still licking the main course followed, Spaghetti Dogonaise. Leyla’s lovely white beard didn’t stay very white for long and Molly thought she had gone to heaven, as her owners never feed her anything as scrummy as this, just dry dog food. For afters there was Cranberry Lollipup’s, and then it was time to light the candles and sing Happy Birthday to Sophie. Each dog was then given a party bag and piece of lip-smacking birthday cake to take home. Everyone then gave Sophie her present before saying goodbye and heading home.
A brilliant evening was had by everyone, here’s to our next party!
